Bio

“Nature is my inspiration – my home, the fields surrounding it, the grass, the trees, the bales of hay and landscapes near and far. I love the outdoors and I love nature. When I paint I want to create my version of nature – that is my goal.”

 

Tom Leahy is an artist based in Ballyhooly who takes his inspiration from the countryside around his home and from the outdoors. He has been painting, modeling and experimenting in many different media for over 20 years. In recent times his paintings have taken a new direction, incorporating traditional oil and water-colour techniques with materials such as papier-maché, wood, moss, earth that gives his work a distinctiveness that is immediately evident.

Tom Leahy is now a full-time artist having retired from competitive sport.  He competed at the highest level of sport for 32 years, has won countless national, European, world and Paralympic medals in the discus, hammer and club events. In 2000 he won a gold medal in the discus at the Sydney Paralympic Games. He is a veteran of seven Paralympic Games in total. Now after a long and distinguished career he is dedicating himself full-time to his art.
